On January 24, 2017, representatives from four political parties met at Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh with Youth Coalition for Unity and Development (YCUD), which consists of members including Youth Resource Development Program (YRDP). The purpose of the meeting, organized by the YCUD and supported by Oxfam, was to discuss how youth policies can be integrated into the party policies and to encourage those political parties to increase youth quota in the up-coming commune election, which will be taken place in less than five months.
YCUD fears that little youth participation in the decision-making processes in the commune level prevent youth from having the opportunity to solve their own issues.
Cheang Sokha, YRDP director and Vice President of YCUD Board of Directors reminds in his speech, that “without clear policy on youth, they (youth) do not have the opportunity to make use of their abilities. Youth must be encouraged to fully participate in political party.”
