Mr. Thun Ratana, a graduate student from Human Resource University in the major of English. After his voluntary work, he was appointed as project manager at Rainwater Cambodia, he said “I am happy to volunteer because I think it is a good chance for me to gain experiences to reach my goal. It is really useful for me to learn more about how to be a good volunteer and the value of volunteerism. I have gotten knowledge that is related to social issues such as how youth are involved in social development, community development, the meaning of volunteerism, what is the key of success, and how to manage myself to reach my goal. Moreover, I also got some skills such as community organizing, facilitator, trainer and how to develop myself. I think the skills I had were not from school, but from my volunteer work at YRDP that led me to success in life.

Furthermore, I could sharpen my English through writing reports and communicating with the donors and staff. Because of my hard work to contribute to the society as a volunteer, I had a chance to volunteer as a project officer at Rainwater Cambodia and was promoted to be a permanent staff. I would like to report that I have been applying  almost all of my skills, experiences and knowledge learnt from my 2 years volunteering with YRDP on the social accountability project  when playing role of facilitator, trainer in and out of the office, team work, I’ve applied them all to my present work.  Volunteerism was really useful for my life especially for my work.

During March 2011, Mr. Ratana attended in the field practice with community villagers. He played leading role in to reflect the participants' understanding during after the discussion.

He led a reflection activity in another community by performing an great elephant pilgrimage to strengthen solidarity between youths and villagers.

Mr. Thun Ratana was performing his important role as one of Cambodian youths to work and make good communication with the local villagers. He led a group of community members to discuss about the community task management system and the ways to submit their proposals to the commune offices, provincial hall level and national levels.
