Ms Gnim Sodavy is, the third year student of Environmental Science in Royal University of Phnom Penh, from Kampong Cham province, starting to attend in the workshop on Personal Development and cooperating with her friends who have similar commitments to create a youth club named “Youth Commitment Community Development (YCCD)”. Her group members have been given more advices in processing club preparation and leadership. So far, her club has completed three projects, the first was conducted in Phnom Penh related to Environment issues (Cleaning Our City), the second related to the agriculture providing the villagers in Pear Reach village, Samaky Mean Chey district, Sethey commune, Kompong Chhnnang Province and the third related to Security Food for my village and the same place as second project done in Kampong Chhnang province. She said “now I am the Youth Empowerment Volunteer Assistant in Youth Empowerment Unit (YEU) of YRDP. Before I attended in YRDP programs, I did not know what was the volunteer work or what would I get from this work? And why have we had to work as volunteer students?”
Since she has voluntarily worked and joined in many workshops and forums at YRDP, she felt she does love and want to do the voluntary work because this work could help her country solve social issues especially the poor people. Moreover, she could improve herself to be confident and a good communicator with other youths. She knew more about the attitudes in work atmosphere and other networks. She was very happy and she never thought that she could have a chance to help the poor people instead of the government. During her voluntary work at Youth Resource Development Program she changed her ideas and characters. In the past, she was not good communicating with other people because she was so shy, but now she is brave to speak out in the public. Her communication skill is improved better than the past. She said “we could do everything if we commit to do it. I hope everybody should think that voluntary work is very important for them.”
Ms Gnim Sodavy participated in the youth workshop at YRDP raising many concerns and question in the workshop. She was one of the active youths who shared her precious time to volintarily work for her community even if she was so busy in her university studies.
She attnded in the group reflection activities the ways to work in networks and how effectively she could work with goals.
