The YRDP's family Gathering Ceremony on November 27, 2011
Phnom Penh - YRDP co-organized its annual family gathering ceremony with volunteer youths under a particular topic to “Strengthen Solidarity and Culture of Sharing” at its office: #93, St.590, Sangkat Boeng Kak II, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh. The ceremony was joined by approximately 130 participants (60 females) who included YRDP’s former youths, staff, current staff and volunteer youths. This ceremony was organized on purpose of giving space and opportunity for participants to share their experiences, skills and knowledge to each other. To start opening the whole ceremony with a greeting speech, Mr. Cheang Sokha, executive director of YRDP, expressed his excitement and satisfaction in this special occasion of YRDP’s family gathering. He addressed that YRDP could be compared to an adult because it has been established since 1992 – approximately 22 years old today. Around 50,000 youths have participated in YRDP’s program activities according to its missions dramatically increasing, YRDP hoped to absorb approximately 10,000 youths in the upcoming year-2012-2014. “Today, we want youths to participate in the ceremony because today ceremony is not any particular person’s, rather belonging to all YRDP’s youths,” added Mr. Sokha. He motivated all youths to strengthen social networking and maintain good communication with families and friends. “All youths do not only need money, but also smile from their surrounded people, too,” said Mr. Sokha. In such a pompous ceremony, it didn’t only provide us excitement and happiness, but we also could learn a lot of good experiences that former students, volunteers, and staff of YRDP shared to their next generations especially the experiences of solidarity and culture of sharing. Normally, in YRDP, the solidarity and culture of sharing have been sharpened in many images such as round table discussions, distinguish speaker sharing, reflections of any particular activities and more actions like culture day and family gathering. The value of YRDP, YRDP’s youths, volunteers, and staff had more opportunities to learn and freely expressed their opinions as a contribution to social development. Spiritually, solidarity and culture of sharing have been playing an important role in building up youth’s capacity and participation in their society. So, we sometimes said if all youths could maintain their solidarity and culture of sharing, their society would grow fast. Miss. Hem Vanareth, a former trainer for Training Unit (TU) at YRDP, as a development officer and community organizer in empowering youth in Cambodia (EYC) at the present time, said the solidarity and culture of sharing were very important topics by the reason that as the human-beings we prefer to share our happiness, knowledge, experiences, and even our values of lives among one another. “Sharing is both-side-benefits because if we share to other, they will get knowledge or get better in their living and we will be happier- more successful,” added Mrs. Vanareth, “as culture of sharing is very valuable as a contribution to social development, I want to see more youths activate themselves in their society.” Mr. Bun Sambath, a former volunteer youth and officer in Youth Empowerment Unit (YEU)-now working for American Embassy in Cambodia, said in his happy appearance with great satisfaction “it is good time for me to see my friends and other colleagues in YRDP.” Not only to provide time to share and strengthen solidarity, but this ceremony served an encouragement for our young youths to work hard as they see their brothers and sisters having good jobs. He continuously gave us his expression about sharing experiences was very important because it could help our younger youths advance one more step towards with the support of the ancestors. Giving his valuably final message to other youths, Mr. Sambath claimed “Sharing experiences was a nonstop life lesson that we need to do in our whole lives”. Similarly, a former volunteer of Youth Empowerment Unit (YEU), Mr. Phat Sopheak stressed his impression about this alumnus was very good for all YRDP’s youths because it was time for reunion-just talking, sharing and knowing each other. “Sharing was very meaningful; we share knowledge, experiences, and even sadness to one another,” added Mr. Sopheak. Expressing his view, he said the people could learn especially those youths – potentially dynamic forces of social development. He appeared his valuable message to all Cambodian youths saying that “Helping society was not embarrassing.” Finally, YRDP has played a very important role in building up good relations between new and old youths to meet each other especially YRDP promoted youths’ capacity development including culture of sharing and the ways to plan in lives. They could strengthen their social networking and get good chances to progress their future. If you are not stingy, lift the torch high to light the way for your descendent.
Mr. Cheang Sokha, the YRDP's executive director, gave his short greeting speech before the whole ceremony program began from 17:30pm until 21:30pm surrounded by the organization's youths, staff and various new friends.
This was the reflecting activity showing the strong and cooperative relationship between former and recent volunteer youths with active staff of YRDP on purpose of strengthening their social networking, culture of sharing and long communications.
This reflecting activites of banding hands showed whom did love YRDP; otherwise were still the students.
